No Dust, No Hassle, Just Shine
Hardwood Renewal, The Hassle-Free Way
Over time, even the most beautiful hardwood floors start to lose their shine. Daily foot traffic, small scratches, and general wear can leave your floors looking dull and tired. But that doesn’t mean you need a full sanding and refinishing job. If your floors are still structurally sound and don’t have deep damage, there’s a faster, cleaner, and more affordable solution.
A screen and recoat is a maintenance process that restores the look of your hardwood floors by removing surface wear and applying a fresh coat of protective finish. It works by lightly abrading the existing polyurethane layer (this is the “screen” part), then applying a new coat of polyurethane (the “recoat”).
Unlike full refinishing, which involves sanding down to the bare wood and potentially changing the floor’s color, this process focuses on revitalizing the finish that protects the wood. It’s ideal for bringing back that healthy glow and shine your floors used to have, especially when the wood underneath is still in good shape.
One of the biggest advantages of a screen and recoat is that it’s significantly less invasive than full sanding. There’s minimal dust, less downtime, and no need to completely clear out your home for days. Most projects can be completed in just one day, and you’ll be walking on your refreshed floors within 24 hours.
It’s also more budget-friendly. Since we’re not stripping off multiple layers or starting from scratch, the process costs less than traditional refinishing. At the same time, it helps extend the life of your hardwood by protecting it from further wear and tear. Regular recoating can delay or even prevent the need for a full refinish down the road.

Is Your Floor a Good Candidate?
If you’re not sure whether your floors are eligible, we’re happy to inspect them. Our team will give you honest feedback and help you decide whether a screen and recoat is the right service or if a different option
A screen and recoat is a great option for hardwood floors that are showing signs of wear but aren’t damaged beneath the surface. Here are a few signs your floor may be a good fit:
It has lost its shine or looks dull.
You see light scratches in the finish but no bare wood showing through.
The color of the floor is consistent, without gray spots or major discoloration.
There’s no significant water damage or warping.
How Our Process Works
When you hire Call Larry: Floor Care for your screen and recoat, here’s what you can expect:
Inspection and Prep – We begin with a walk-through to assess the condition of your floors. Then we clean the surface thoroughly to remove dirt, oils, and anything else that could interfere with the bonding process.
Screening – Using a specialized buffer, we gently abrade the top layer of your floor’s finish. This step helps the new coat adhere properly and smooths out minor surface imperfections.
Recoating – Once the floor is prepped, we apply a fresh coat of high-quality polyurethane. You can choose your desired finish level, whether satin, semi-gloss, or high-gloss.
Drying and Curing – Most floors are dry to the touch within a few hours, and light foot traffic is safe after about 24 hours. Full curing takes a few days, but we’ll guide you on when to move furniture back and how to care for the floor afterward.
